Trash to treasure to trash to treasure…

Sometimes, things come together beautifully, but aren’t quite set up to last. Then you have to start over with what you can salvage and create something new, something different, but still beautiful.

Thus was the case when I chose to be frugal and re-purpose a frame that could only lean and not be safely hung. Hey, I was just teaching myself how to do glass-on-glass mosaic, so I was okay with the risk this minimizing of expense posed. Alas, the work on the left had its life cut short with a slam of the shower door and the guilt-ridden husband carefully gathered the pieces into a shoe box. It had provided privacy and beautiful light, classing up that unfinished window, so I pondered it resurrection, while I focused on other projects.

A few weeks later, it became a mixed media, glass-on-glass mosaic. Trying to take all the pieces back to a grout-free state, and start fresh, seemed too onerous. So, I found a suitable frame and glass, adhered the salvaged segments, then filled the gaps with a wash of diluted acrylic paint. Can’t keep us creative people down!
